Under my tenure as County Commissioner we have committed to providing much needed infrastructure improvements to our public school system. Construction will soon start on a new ADA accessible cafeteria for Fairview School, multiple improvements to Blue Ridge School, the Track and Field project at the high school will finally be finished. With the help of a State sponsored Public School Grant, Jackson County will soon have a modern middle school complete with a full compliment of athletic fields and amenities. We have also modernized the Webster Park ballfield to comply with ADA requirements, added a picnic area, ADA compliant playground for the younger children so that the High School girls softball team can have a field they can be proud of. Although I’ve only listed a few of the current projects going, there are many smaller, but no less important projects to make sure our schools will be safe and maintained for years to come.
Along with support from Rep. Mike Clampitt, Sen. Kevin Corbin, Dr Dana Ayers (JCPS Superintendent) we were able to bring an Army Jr ROTC Program to Jackson County. This program helps build leadership, discipline and strong ethics for our youth. Jackson county has a great bunch of kids; bright, resourceful, enthusiastic about reaching their goals and we couldn’t ask for a better program to help with those tasks, if they choose to participate, the Jr ROTC program is an excellent starting point! I hope to see all of our Jackson County youth be fully prepared to go forth into the world, whether it is here in Jackson County, another state or another country and become great leaders.
We also committed to providing every child attending our public schools with FREE breakfast and lunch, we believe that no child should ever sit down in a classroom hungry. I know its sad, but some of these children that is the only hot meals they may have on a given day. There is no better use for taxpayer dollars than ensuring our children are fed.
